Church History
COURSE DESCRIPTION: The old adage that if we don’t learn from history we will repeat its mistakes is certainly true with the history of the church. It is also true that there is a rich heritage to glean from in studying the ancients’ practices and beliefs. God has had a plan from eternity and is accomplishing it through His church. To study the church, warts and all, throughout its history will produce rich and lasting fruit for the believer.
ACADEMIC: The student will learn each of the major time periods of church history, focusing on personalities, events and beliefs of each era. The stamp of the Holy Spirit as well as the flesh of humanity will be observed. The student will learn to critically analyze past events and beliefs and how they affect the world today.
BEHAVIORAL: The student will grow in appreciation for the sovereignty of God in accomplishing His plan through the frailty of humanity. He or she will step out of his or her cultural box and get a bigger perspective of God’s plan as well as a greater appreciation for the unity of the body of Christ.
